Privacy Rights
THE FAMILY EDUCATION RIGHT & PRIVACY ACT OF 1974
The School District maintains records of (1) birthday, birth date, phone, home address, and names of parents; (2) education aptitude, achievement and grades; (3) school attendance and (4) health data on every student.
Parents or students of majority age have the right to review these records, prevent them from being disclosed to non-‐school personnel under certain circumstances, challenge the records, and offer additional information.
The school may release directory and athletic program information in the form of lists, including names, grade levels, home addresses, parents’ names and phone numbers.
Parents or students may deny the school the right to release this information by contacting the school principal’s office.
The School District will mail, on request, education records to another school district in which the student seeks or intends to enroll. Bus and classroom activities may be video taped for instructional purposes.
PPRA NOTIFICATION OF RIGHTS
Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment affords parents and students 18 years old the right to give consent, an opportunity to opt their student out of and inspect the following:
- Collection, disclosure, or use of personal information for marketing, sales or other distribution.
- Administration of any protected information survey not funded in whole or in part by the Department of Education.
- Any non-‐emergency, invasive physical examination or screening.
