Parents wanting to exercise the open enrollment option for enrollment into or out of the district must complete an application and send it to both the resident district and receiving district on or before the deadline.
The deadline for open enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year is March 1st, 2023, however the deadline for kindergarten open enrollment is September 1st, 2023.
In addition, some situations are considered “good cause” and are acceptable for a timeline waiver if the change occurred after March 1st. The situations are primarily related to residence change and include:
- Change in marital status resulting in change of resident district
- Placement in foster care resulting in change of residence
- Adoption
- Participation in foreign language program
- Participation in substance abuse treatment
- Serious health need
- Pervasive harassment
- Change in open enrollment laws
Open enrollment may not be used to attend school in another state. In most cases, a high school student who enrolls is ineligible for varsity interscholastic athletic competition during the student’s first 90 consecutive days of enrollment in the receiving district.
A student open enrolling in or out of the district may qualify for transportation assistance for open enrollment. Please contact the District Office at (563) 539-6400 if you have any questions.
