Motion by Tonya Meyer, seconded by Collin Stubbs, to approve the contracts, resignations and transfers as follows:
Contract: LeVirgil Monroe, Head Softball Coach
Resignations: Pat Wille, High School Physical Education
Angie Pape, Volleyball
Brent Pape, Middle School Wrestling

Erik Peterson talked to the Board about adding soccer to our list of sports. The season would be in the Spring and athletes could potentially participate in both track or golf and soccer. The football field would be used for games. We have staff who may be interested in coaching. With limited opportunities to play soccer, this may be a selling point for families to move into the district. Motion by Roberta Hass, seconded by Collin Stubbs, to approve adding soccer to our athletic program for the 2023-2024 school year. Motion passed unanimously.
Erik Peterson also talked about the scoreboard situation in the high school gym. The current boards are old, and the side panels have not been functioning for most of the season. Cost to replace both boards and include lights on the back boards would be approximately $28,000. There is potential to have advertisers pay for much of that cost. The Board directed Mr. Peterson to move forward with the project.
The Board discussed the two proposed calendars for the FY24 school year and recommended the “Calendar B” option, with April 3rd included in the spring break. This will be voted on at the March board meeting after the calendar hearing.
Motion by Jon Moser, seconded by Josh Grau, the accept the Return to Learn Plan as presented, with no changes from the previous plan. Motion carried unanimously.
Principal Report:
Kathy Koether reported that the Elementary is busy with library trips, will have a music and character education assembly jointly with Kee High, the entire elementary school will go to Luther College for a play, the elementary addition continues to see progress. In the high school, All State Speech and State Wrestling are coming up. Girls State Wrestling tournament was held in Iowa City, the middle school play will be in March, and Legacy continues to compete/perform most weekends.
Superintendent Report:
Dr. Crozier discussed the MORE program and the proposed project to renovate the courtyard, potentially removing the trees and the pond. Appreciation was expressed to Norplex for the $1,000 donation for instructional projects. Dr. Crozier talked about adding administrative support to both the elementary and the middle school by hiring a part-time Assistant Principals. These positions would require an administrative certificate.
The next meeting will be held in the Monona Center Library on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
President Roys adjourned the meeting at 7:19 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Karla Hanson
Board Secretary
