Larry Meyer, High School Principal, talked about the newness of this school year. Many calls with parents, discussions with students and meetings with staff have happened in order to keep the year moving along as smoothly as possible. There are approximately 221 high school students, four of which are virtual learners. State reporting is being worked on and this, too, has seen some changes due to the early closure of the school last spring. CTE teachers finished the process of gathering information and placing orders through the AEA for Perkins tied projects. Homecoming preparations are underway. Staff will be provided extra training from AEA on the use of Canvas, the State sponsored online learning platform. The first two Wednesdays of virtual learning have gone well. The nursing staff is scheduled to discuss slowing down the spread of the virus.

Denise Mueller, Middle School Principal, reported that there are 15 Canvas learners in the middle school. The first quarantine happened last week and teachers immediately contacted students to help them prepare for online learning while at home. The first volleyball game was held on September 14. There are new reading and math series being used this year. New intervention times have been implemented. Tornado drills will be tabletop drills based on the guidelines given by the Department of Education.

Dr. Crozier discussed the Return to Learn Plan, how the district continues to navigate uncharted territory and the need for flexibility and patience. He recommended that online learning Wednesdays be extended through Christmas. Scheduling at minimum two, two-hour early out days could provide the time needed for additional training for the online platforms, cleaning procedures, etc.

President Roys addressed the list of concerns that was compiled by staff members and ways to improve or correct problem areas are being considered and/or implemented where possible. Meetings will continue to take place between administrators and teachers to address the various situations as they arise.

President Roys adjourned the meeting at 7:04 pm.

The next board meeting will be held on October 12, 2020, in the McGregor School house library at 6:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Karla Hanson – Board Secretary
