Public Hearing and Regular Monthly Minutes
March 12, 2018


The MFL MarMac Board of Education held its Budget Hearing, Public Hearing and Regular board meeting on March 12, 2018, in the high school media center of the Monona schoolhouse.

President Roys called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Members present at roll call were Brian Meyer, Jonathon Moser, Tonya Meyer, and Gina Roys. Absent at roll call were Collins Stubbs, Sharon Greener and Josh Grau. Also present were Dale Crozier, Superintendent, Larry Meyer, High School Principal, Denise Mueller, Middle School Principal, Kathy Koether, Elementary Principal, and Cindy, Koons, Board Secretary. Visitors were welcomed and recognized.

Motion was made by Moser, seconded by T. Meyer, to approve the agenda as presented. The motion was unanimously carried.

The Public Hearing opened at 7:05 p.m. regarding the FY19 Budget. Discussion was held regarding the proposed budget. The Board of Directors reviewed the proposed budget. Public comments and concerns were requested. No comments or concerns were heard.

Motion by Moser, seconded by T. Meyer, to close the Public Hearing regarding the 2019 Budget Hearing at 7:07 p.m. The motion was unanimously carried.

The Public Hearing opened at 7:07 p.m. regarding the 2018-2019 school calendar. Discussion was held regarding calendar as presented. Public comments and concerns were requested. No comments or concerns were heard.

Motion by T. Meyer, seconded by B. Meyer, to close the Public Hearing regarding the 2018-2019 school calendar at 7:09 p.m.. The motion was unanimously carried.

Motion by Moser, to approve the following consent items from the agenda:

  • Minutes from the February 12, 2018, board meeting.
  • Bills against the district as listed: General Fund: $103,339.04; Capital Projects: $11,283.59; PPEL: $17,585.53; Clearing Account: $22,561.25; Food Service: $19,825.99; HAWC: $40,962.43; Little Bulldog Childcare Center: $2,590.27; Dr. Smith Childcare: $1,424.52.
  • The Secretary’s Report, Activity Report, and Food Service Report will be filed subject to audit.

T. Meyer seconded the motion and it was unanimously carried.

The Board of Directors heard the FFA creed presented by Mackenzy Ruff. Mackenzy presented the FFA creed at the district competition on March 10th in Waukon and received a silver rating. She will be recognized as being the 15,000th member to join FFA in Iowa at the State FFA Conventions held in Ames, April 22-24, 2018.

Jackie McGeough, Megan Schellhorn, and members from the S.O.D.A. Group (Students Against Drugs and Alcohol) Micah Decker, Safire Zinkle, Destiny Berns, and Macie Weigand gave an informative presentation regarding substance abuse. The MFL MarMac S.O.D.A. students recently went to the Des Moines capital to talk with representatives regarding substance abuse.

Brent Pape, Melissa Haberichter, Shauna Lange and Stephanie Jones gave an presentation on personalized professional development and how it interacts with the Instructional Coaching in the district.

Motion by T. Meyer, seconded by Moser to approve the contracts for Gerald Kleve, Head Softball Coach, Melissa Ward, Assistant Softball Coach, Brandon Burke, Head Baseball Coach, Gunner Mohs, Assistant Baseball Coach. The motion was unanimously carried.

Motion by Moser, seconded by T. Meyer, to accept the resignation pending a suitable replacement for Eliza Philpott, Head Cross Country Coach. The motion was unanimously carried.

Motion by Moser, seconded by T. Meyer, to accept the resignation of Tom Oppelt, High School Science Instructor and Athletic Director. The motion was unanimously carried.

Motion by T. Meyer, seconded by B. Meyer, resolved, that the Board of Directors of the MFL MarMac Community School District will levy property tax for fiscal year 2018-2019 for the regular program budget adjustment as allowed under section 257.74 Code of Iowa. The motion was unanimously carried.

Motion by Moser, seconded by T. Meyer, to approve the FY 2019 Budget as presented. The motion was unanimously carried.

Motion by Moser, seconded by B. Meyer, to approve the 2018-2019 school calendar as presented. The motion was unanimously carried.

The principal’s reports were given.

Superintendent’s Update:

  • If we don’t miss any more days of school the last day for students will be May 31, 2018.

The next board meeting will be held on April 9, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in the Monona high school media center.

President Roys adjourned the meeting at 8:18 p.m.
