Minutes for Regular Monthly and Organizational Meeting
December 13, 2021
The MFL MarMac Board of Education held its regular monthly and organizational board meeting on December 13, 2021, in the high school learning commons of the Monona schoolhouse.
President Roys called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. Members present at roll call were Gina Roys, Roberta Hass, Dr. Jonathon Moser, Brian Meyer, Josh Grau, Tonya Meyer and Collin Stubbs. Also present were Dr. Dale Crozier, Superintendent, and Karla Hanson, Board Secretary. Visitors were recognized and welcomed.
Motion made by Dr. Moser, seconded by Tonya Meyer, to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Dr. Moser, seconded by Roberta, to approve the consent items from the agenda as follows:
- Minutes from the November 8, 2021, board meeting.
- Bills against the district as listed: General Fund: $177,479.79; Management: $500.00 Enterprise: $1,080.00; Capital Projects: $148,745.56; PPEL: $49,287.39; Clearing Account: $43,454.09; Food Service: $29,498.56; Little Bulldog Childcare: $9,316.22; Dr. Smith Childcare: $1,613.13
- The Secretary’s Report, Activity Report and Food Service Report will be filed subject to audit.
The motion was unanimously carried.
Old Business: Dr. Crozier discussed the official canvas of votes from the school board election. He also reviewed the elementary addition project stating that requests for bids will be put out in early 2022 and construction could happen as early as late Spring, 2022.
Brian Meyer was recognized for his 23 years of service to the district. Much has changed in that time, and he noted many of the improvements and some challenges he witnessed during his time as a school board member.
President Roys appointed Karla Hanson temporary chair at 6:18 pm. Oath of Office was administered to Aaron Schroeder, Josh Grau, Gina Roys and Dr. Moser.
Dr. Moser made a motion to nominate Gina Roys as Board President, seconded by Tonya Meyer. No further nominations were made. Motion carried unanimously, with Gina Roys abstaining.
Temporary Chairperson, Karla Hanson, turned the meeting over to President Roys at 6:24 pm.
Motion by Tonya Meyer, seconded by Dr. Moser, to nominate Roberta Hass as Vice President. No further nominations were made. Motion carried unanimously, with Roberta Hass abstaining.

Meeting Dates/Times: 2nd Monday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Learning Commons
Of the Monona Center, except in May and October when meetings will be in the
Library of the McGregor Center.

Motion by Josh Grau, seconded by Dr. Moser, to accept the resignation of Theresa Warren (food service) and to accept the split contract for assistant high school wrestling coach between Travis Johnson, Collin Stubbs, Adrian McGeough, Mike Meyer, and Brent Pape. Motion carried unanimously, with Collin Stubbs abstaining.
One bid was received for snow removal. Motion by Collin Stubbs, seconded by Dr. Moser, to accept the bid from ARC. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Roberta Hass, seconded by Collin Stubbs, to make a resolution to approve the Clayton County Mitigation Plan as presented. Motion carried unanimously.
Board members who attended the Iowa Association of School Boards Convention in Des Moines last month briefly discussed the highlights of the conference.
Principal Reports:
High School: Mr. Meyer reported the following activities: UIC Band Fest, Dollars for Scholars meeting, FAFSA meeting, mock interviews, State dance competition, AEA PD training, FFA fruit sales, departmental meetings, speech competitions coming up in January, winter sports are in full swing, Authentic Learning program begins in January, Winter Concert will be Dec 16.
Middle School: Mrs. Mueller talked about the following: Girls’ basketball and wrestling will be over soon, boys’ basketball begins in January, concert and caroling have taken place, participated in National Honor Band and Opus Honor Choir, purchased a GaGa Pit, Fun Day is scheduled for December 22, Snack Hut is being utilized for entrepreneurial skills and STEAM, and Dawn Colsch received some grants to do new projects with students.
Elementary: Mrs. Koether reviewed the following: 2nd and 3rd Grade Winter concert is December 14, new families in the area are increasing the enrollment in 3- and 4-year-old preschool, collecting food for Shepherd of the Hills, community donations for winter gear are being used, and STEAM classes are happening weekly.
Superintendent Report:
Dr. Crozier discussed a video that will be shared about strategic planning. He also spoke about using ESSER funds for bonuses and stated that he will proceed cautiously to make sure the needs of the district regarding Covid 19 are met.
The next monthly board meeting will be held on January 10, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons of the Monona High School.
