Regular Meeting
Monday, August 12, 2024
The MFL MarMac Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors was held on August 12, 2024, in the Learning Commons of the Monona Schoolhouse.
President, Gina Roys, called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Members present at roll call were Tonya Meyer, Roberta Hass, Aaron Schroeder, Danielle Schlake, Dr. Jon Moser and Josh Grau (via telephone). Also, present – Tim Dugger; Superintendent, Karla Hanson; Board Secretary, and Student Board Members; Mattie Hallberg and Mariah Moser.
Motion by Tonya Meyer, seconded by Dr. Moser, to approve the agenda with the addition of one business items – Approve NICC Concurrent Classes and Health Consortium Contracts. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Roberta Hass, seconded by Danielle Schlake, to approve the consent items from the agenda as follows:
- Minutes from the July 15, 2024, Regular Board Meeting
- Bills against the district as listed: General Fund: $114,258.61, Management: $287,913.47; Enterprise: $.00; Capital Projects: $271,449.54; PPEL: $21,229.45; Activity Account: $32,507.70, Food Service: $17,226.76, Little Bulldog Childcare: $6,843.00, Dr. Smith Childcare: $10,377.49.
- The Secretary’s Report, Activity Report and Food Service Report will be filed subject to audit.
The motion was unanimously carried.

Motion by Dr. Moser, seconded by Tonya Meyer, to approve the second reading of the following Board Policies: HF2537 Chronic Absenteeism and Truancy Policies/(New Law) 501.3 Compulsory Attendance, 501.9 Chronic Absenteeism and Truancy, 501.9R1 Chronic Absenteeism and Truancy Regulation, 501.9E1 Chronic Absenteeism Parent Letter, and 501.9E2 Truancy Parent Letter. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Aaron Schroeder, seconded by Dr. Moser, to approve the contract as presented with Mercy One for athletic trainer services. The contract has not changed from previous years. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Aaron Schroeder, seconded by Josh Grau, to approve the first reading of the 209 series as follows: 209.1 Development of Policy, 209.2 Revision of Policy, 209.3 Dissemination of Policy, 209.4 Suspension of Policy, 209.5 Administration in the Absence of Policy, 209.6 Review/Revision of Policy, 209.7 Review of Administrative Regulations. Motion carried unanimously.
Reports:
Student board members, Mariah Moser and Mattie Hallberg, reported the Student Council had a leadership workshop, Homecoming planning has begun and first day of school activities will include a photobooth wall.
Denise Mueller and Brett Jackson report that the middle school is ready for the start of the new year – thanks in big part to the hard work of our custodians, beginning year meetings are being scheduled with families and teachers, Ed Camps are now complete for the summer, new teacher orientation will be on August 19, students return on August 23, and sports practices will begin on August 29. CPI and ACHIEVE training will be complete soon.
Larry Meyer reports that summer school will continue through Thursday of this week, we currently have approximately 267 students enrolled in the high school, fall sports practices have begun, the gym project is complete, and the science rooms should be done by the end of this week
Tim Dugger and Abbey Cottrell reported that all the elementary classrooms are ready to go, summer school is over, 4-year-old preschool is full and has a waiting list, Kindergarten and Jr Kindergarten will have an open house August 21, Meet the Teacher Night is August 22, 1st-3rd grade enrollment is at approximately 180 students.
President Roys adjourned the meeting at 6:29 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for September 16, 2024, at 6:00 in the Monona Center Learning Commons.
